News and Reviews for PHIL'S HARMONICS
When I started working at the Back Alley Bar & Grill in Sebring, FL as a DJ and karaoke host, the staff there suggested that I put out a tip jar as other performers there do. At first I felt uncomfortable doing so, but after giving it some thought I decided to do it and to donate the tips to a charity instead of keeping them for myself. The charity that I chose to support was the Wounded Warrior Project. As a Vietnam Veteran myself, I felt that this was a good way to help our service men and women. I am very happy to say that the customers of the Back Alley were very supportive, and thanks to their generosity, I was able to send the WWP a total of $700.00 in 2014. All I can say is thanks to each and every one who tipped me.
I decided to continue my support of the Wounded Warrior Project this year, 2015. I am happy to announce that today, January 19th, I was able to send another $100.00 to the WWP. Again, I have to say thank you to all the customers of the Back Alley Bar & Grill and especially those who come out and join me for both Oldies nights and Karaoke nights for their support of the great cause.
You did it again! In the last week I received several tips, and again they have totaled in excess of $100, so another $100.00 donation has been made to the Wounded Warrior Project. I thank each and every one of you who made this possible and who continue to make future donations possible as well.I am blown away by your generosity.
I am just blown away by the generosity of everyone. After just sending $100 to the WWP on Friday, after playing oldies music for 3 hours tonight at the Back Alley Bar & Grill in Sebring, FL, I am able to send another donation of $100.00. That makes $300 just this year. All I can say is THANK YOU to all of the patrons.
Well, I haven't updated this section for a little while. What I am happy to report is that the tips keep coming in, and I have now been able to send the Wounded Warrior Project $2,100 so far in 2015 thanks to the support of those who come to my shows. In addition to doing karaoke on Tuesdays and Fridays, I have now added on a trivia game on both of those days prior to karaoke. That, along with the oldies nights every other Monday, have helped increase the tips. It couldn't happen without everyone's support. I salute you all.
I continued to support the Wounded Warrior Project throughout 2015, despite the many reports of poor use of the donations that they received. I reasoned that they spent more money on advertising etc. but that they also raised more money that way and were able to assist more wounded warriors because of it. However, with the disclosure of their wasteful spending on corporate outings and other things that in no way helped those they professed to assist, and after sending them approximately $3,400 in 16 months, I have changed my support. Please see below for my new charity. I do thank all of those who did give me tips during those 16 months, and I hope you will continue to support the new charity that I have chosen for 2016.
For 2016, I have chosen to send all tips that I collect to the Sebring Meals On Wheels group, for two main reasons. First of all, they are a charity that is local to Sebring, FL where most of my work is done and where most of the tips come from. Secondly, they fill a very real need in the community, and several of those that they help are veterans or the spouses of veterans, and therefore I am still helping veterans in need as well. As I write this post (March 23, 2016) you have already donated $400 to the cause...and I thank you all very much.
Well, 2016 is now behind us, and once again I find myself in the position of having to thank all you who continued to support me with your tips. Because of your generosity, we were able to send cash and merchandise totaling approximately $2,000 to the Sebring Meals on Wheels. All I an say is thank you all very much. I will be choosing a new charity for 2017 and will let you all know where your tips/donations will be going this year.
I have chosen the Vietnam Veterans of America, Highlands County Chapter as the recipient of this years tips, and I already have to say thank you again. It is only January 18th, and I am sending off a check for $100 to them today.
I did receive some bad news recently. Because of some business changes, I will no longer be playing at the 5 O'clock Somewhere Bar & Grill (formerly the Back Alley Bar & Grill) on Monday nights. So, instead of being able to collect tips three days a week, I will now only be collecting on Tuedays and Thursdays.
I hope that we will still be able to give substantial assistance to the VVA. All of the money they receive stays within Highlands County and goes to help needy veterans and their families.
